how long can you walk a dog in 90 degrees?
She's a healthy 55 pound border collie and lab mix age 3. She has fur as long as a border collies which I was told I can not cut or it will ruin her coat and not keep her insulated when it's winter again. I carry a water bottle for her. This is the first time I had her in warm weather as she is a rescue her previous owner just dumped her. I went out walking around 5pm for our usual hour walk but she got very tired and I had to encourage her to keep moving, so we went back home only after a half hour. But she's restless in the house, she's circling everything. I was also wondering if putting on a backpack with ice packs in it would keep her cool or would the extra weight just make her hotter?
If I were you, I would walk her in the morning and evening, that way it's not as hot out and the sun isn't that hot on you yet. I would walk her for about 15-20 minutes a time. But you can do it more frequent. Instead of 1 long walk, a few short walks.
